Winners Can’t Always Be Choosers; Like Everybody Else, They Have To Fit In

Amateur hour in the White House: he tells the GOP not to listen to a particular radio show; reminds us, “I won;” scolds a reporter for asking a substantial question at an inconvenient time; petulantly hangs on to his risky mobile phone; and gives his first interview as president to — ye gods — an Arab TV network (and makes a mess of it). That’s change, all right. A breath of fresh air, or hints of a Carter-like presidency? Too early to tell, because he may get a feel for the job, but so far it appears that he’s trying to get his community organized. That’s not the same as setting up your team and establishing your bona fides.

The Iranian Fanatics Will Never Play Nice

Begin with the basic story, which describes the US Navy’s interception of an Iranian merchant vessel carrying munitions. Then, if you are not too fussy about where you get your news, move on to this Mossad-sourced story, parts of which may be true.

Note that experience with the second source — a website called “Debka” — led the Terrapin Gazette to stop linking to stories reported there. The site is simply not reliable.

It’s A Hoax, It’s A Power Grab, It’s An Insult To The Public, And It’s A Disgrace

Fortunately, the facts surrounding the anthropogenic global warming scam are increasingly open to view. Consider, for example, thisdevastating commentary on James Hansen, the Arch-Wizard of Al Gore’s doomsday AGW cult.

Washington DC, Jan 27th 2009: NASA warming scientist James Hansen, one of former Vice-President Al Gore’s closest allies in the promotion of man-made global warming fears, is being publicly rebuked by his former supervisor at NASA.

Retired senior NASA atmospheric scientist, Dr. John S. Theon, the former supervisor of James Hansen, NASA’s vocal man-made global warming fear soothsayer, has now publicly declared himself a skeptic and declared that Hansen “embarrassed NASA” with his alarming climate claims and said Hansen was “was never muzzled.” Theon joins the rapidly growing ranks of international scientists abandoning the promotion of man-made global warming fears.

“I appreciate the opportunity to add my name to those who disagree that global warming is man made,” Theon wrote to the Minority Office at the Environment and Public Works Committee on January 15, 2009. “I was, in effect, Hansen’s supervisor because I had to justify his funding, allocate his resources, and evaluate his results,” Theon, the former Chief of the Climate Processes Research Program at NASA Headquarters and former Chief of the Atmospheric Dynamics & Radiation Branch explained.

Theon declared “climate models are useless.” “My own belief concerning anthropogenic climate change is that the models do not realistically simulate the climate system because there are many very important sub-grid scale processes that the models either replicate poorly or completely omit,” Theon explained. “Furthermore, some scientists have manipulated the observed data to justify their model results. In doing so, they neither explain what they have modified in the observations, nor explain how they did it. They have resisted making their work transparent so that it can be replicated independently by other scientists. This is clearly contrary to how science should be done. Thus there is no rational justification for using climate model forecasts to determine public policy,” he added.

Gore faces a much different scientific climate in 2009 than the one he faced in 2006 when his film “An Inconvenient Truth” was released. According to satellite data, the Earth has cooled since Gore’s film was released, Antarctic sea ice extent has grown to record levels, sea level rise has slowed, ocean temperatures have failed to warm, and more and more scientists have publicly declared their dissent from man-made climate fears as peer-reviewed studies continue to man-made counter warming fears. [See: Peer-Reviewed Study challenges ‘notion that human emissions are responsible for global warming’ & New Peer-Reviewed Scientific Studies Chill Global Warming Fears]

“Vice President Gore and the other promoters of man-made climate fears (who make) endless claims that the “debate is over” appear to be ignoring scientific reality,” Senator James Inhofe, Ranking Member of the Environment & Public Works Committee (said).

Hansen has been introduced and explained in the PenPo. If you don’t recall his fascist ways, unethical behavior as a government employee, reliance on hoax science, insane alarmism about the end of everything that matters, and demand that mankind not only stop producing anycarbon dioxide at all, but start removing it from the atmosphere, refresh your memory: request a fresh, recently revised and all-inclusive copy of the PenPo’s Special Number on AGW.

It could be that global warming will take place. Because prediction is impossible, no one can say how long current phenomena — typically but imprecisely called “trends” — will continue. One thing, however, is certain: man’s impact on climate is tiny, and cannot be responsible for catastrophic or even significant change. Anthropogenic global warming is a nonsense concept.

This comprehensive article provides all anyone needs to understand what is happening, as well as what can be deduced about the causes of the effects. Yes, climate change exists; yes, it may affect us in ways we don’t like. But no, Al Gore is absolutely not correct. If the Obama administration tries to do something about climate, it should be slapped down, hard. Junk science can lead to junk politics.

The facts are voluminous, and a quick scan of the article linked above will not suffice. (Here’s a book; be sure to get the latest edition.) If you read, therefore, do so at a deliberate pace, and with the intention to spend enough time to do the truth full justice. Al Gore counts on the slothful ways of a gullible public; the best counter to the hoax is plenty of good information, and that takes time to absorb.

The USA Does Not “Not Talk”

The new president of the US has repeatedly implied that there has been a studied, stupid refusal on the part of previous administrations to communicate with regimes that are angry with the USA. It is not exactly a lie, because it has never been explicitly and clearly stated, but it is not a truth.

There has never been a period during which the process of sending messages and studying responses has stopped. Whether the other nation is North Korea, Cuba or Iran, there is always an exchange of information. The USA always talks, but not always in obvious ways.

Sometimes the talking goes on very indirectly, and the messages are brief. They may carried by diplomats, businessmen or by ad hocenvoys of less obvious sorts, and they may passed in provident, expedient ways. But there is a constant attentiveness on the part of the USA, as channels of communication are checked to see whether they can be expanded. Can a low-ranking Swiss diplomat talk to his Japanese counterpart about the possibility of more direct lines of communications being opened between the USA and Nation X?

To imply that the USA freezes into a resolute deaf-mute state is to practice innuendo and deceit.

By the same token, to announce grandly that one will go anywhere any time and talk to any representative of unfriendly regimes is to exploit the naive notions of persons who have not had the benefit of a few — a very few — facts. It is not the more sincere for having been made publicly, and its real audience is domestic.

The pretense of novelty, the sham that is constructed around self-serving political rhetoric, is not diplomacy. Nor does it herald breakthroughs. The professionals know what they are doing, and very often they know that it is best to remain quiet and attentive.

The novices don’t always understand that, or care.

A Reminder That The Fake Objectivity Of The Beeb Is Still With Us

From the Biased BBC weblog:

On News 24 last night I heard someone insist that Israel would “have to” talk to Hamas, just like the British government “had to” talk to the IRA. It’s a completely misleading analogy but the BBC are wedded to it and you can be sure that Israel will be cast as the intransigent villains if they do not set down and enter dialogue with the genocidal Islamic savages in Hamas. The BBC coverage of the brutal murder of an Israeli soldier by Hamas should have re-assured everyone that BBC faux protestations about its much vaunted “impartiality” on this issue are as shallow as they are insubstantial. Once again the narrative is that “both sides” have broken their cease-fires and so Hamas get a pass for their act of murderous aggression.

One of the things that sustains and encourages Islamofascist violence against the West is the degree to which the Western news media refuse to denounce the villains and support the decent people. The BBC is a long-term offender, which is why the Biased BBC weblog exists.

A Fistfight In The Culture War

This newsletter is not aware that many facts regarding the arson attack on Sarah Palin’s church have been widely reported in the major media. According to this article, an “exclusive” report, there is some interesting and possibly fruitful evidence. When things like this don’t make the papers, you can expect rumor will fill the gap. Sure enough, the article includes some sensational charges the PenPo sees as unsupported and conspiracist.

Links To Under-reported Stories Or Resources

History buffs may want to visit this large website on ancient Egypt, or learn more about a recent discovery regarding a plot to assassinate Andrew Jackson. Next, Agincourt. Begin with the standard view and conclude with the real explanation of how the English won so decisively.

Just in case (and of course you won’t need this advice): if questioned by the police as a possible suspect in a criminal investigation, (1) do not talk to them at all, even to deny wrongdoing. Say literally nothing (see PenPo 19). Lawyer up at once. (2) Remember the knowledge you gained from this summary of the legal facts.

To their credit, the major media did report this. Did you see it, or was it, er, downplayed?

Wolves. That says it all.

Obama as wizard? That’s how CNN sees him. “Harken to the Law, mere mortals! Verily, those fools who tune in Limbaugh shall be ensorceled and converted into consumptive toads, forthwith!!”

There’s a new light bulb from Britain. It’s an LED that’s cheaper to manufacture and use, and has a longer life — it says here. But will it rot our retinas? Stockpile incandescents now, before they are made illegal; the new stuff may fall far short of expectations.

Is a college education worth the time and money it takes to get it?

Given insane Islamic attitudes, how can Israel live in peace? Disturbing, frustrating video. Turkey needs a new government.

This proposed legislation will embarrass and infuriate the Democrats, who will kill it in committee as quietly as they possibly can. Pity. Every voter should know the story behind it.

Cripes! According to the haploid author of this lopsided report, Che Guevara “…left a beautiful corpse (quite literally, as photographed by his killers)….” Oh, yeah?? Take a look at the accompanying photos (one of which is wallpaper on a PenPo computer). What’s “beautiful” about these scenes is that they show the mass murderer dead. Not nearly soon enough, but you can’t have everything.

The latest news from France. –Unh, what’s that? You say it makes no sense? Well, of course it doesn’t!

This is bad news from Latin America, which has had more than enough bad news for centuries, and now, thanks to the international “progressive” anti-capitalist liberation multiculturalist elevation of consciousness, seems about to convulse yet again. The Jews, you see, are now revealed to be up to no good. Heavy sigh….

Kelo. That’s a word that should strike dread in the heart of anyone who thinks he owns a home in the USA. And the implications of Kelo are spreading like a malignant tumor; if you don’t understand, or you think that is an exaggeration, read this.

Big pharma guilty as charged? Could be. Research is expensive, and if you can’t get funds because positive results would curtail drug sales, well….

Erratum

It is too easy to type “Hanson” when the man’s name is Hansen. The error appears in Number 56, and may hide elsewhere, as well. So: it’s James Hansen, AGW fanatic. Not Hanson, and not scientist.

From The Archive

The following is dated January 1, 2004, and was distributed before the advent of The Terrapin Gazette.

The story in this URL is not exactly reassuring. Briefly, it describes how a Mexican diplomat has been enabling the smuggling of heaven knows how many Arabs into the USA, and for who knows how many years.

I insist that I am on target when I say that most nations are significantly corrupt, with a few relatively clean exceptions (Finland, Singapore). More than balancing these are the hopeless pestholes (India, Indonesia, Nigeria). Most of the rest are pretty putrid (China, the Arab world, Southeast Asia, Africa, Russia, much of Europe, the Balkans, Mexico, Central and South America). To me this means that the USA is going to have a lot of trouble getting the cooperation it needs in order to maintain decent security. Terrorists will exploit the opportunities created wherever there is corruption.

…notice the story of an Aussie female journalist who is telling the world that she was abused by the US Homeland Security Nazis. It seems this cow showed up at LAX without the proper visa, and wanted in anyway.

Starting from that “minor” infraction, she goes into great detail about her degradation. Handcuffs! Long waits, up to a half hour! Staff refused to take her order for food, and instead provided a hard roll! Oh, the Humanity….

Then there is her account of the interrogations. Actually they were interviews, but to a princess of the press, they must have been more taxing than learning that Gucci has discontinued one’s very favorite pump.

Her Verbose Majesty seems not to understand that all the questions were asked because the cops wanted to know whether she was in fact a journalist. She’s not very bright, but is exquisitely sensitive about being required to obey the laws that apply to mortals.

Her “If this doesn’t stop NOW, I’m gonna get like all damp and mussed” story lacks credibility, and there are no marks to show where the torturers applied the thumbscrews. So she can go suck eggs, say I.

Here’s a fact airlines and arrogant journalists the world over seem to have overlooked, or misunderstood, or failed to think through:

The USA is at war.

My daddy told me when I was a tad: “Son, don’t get in the way of the saw when it’s cutting wood.”
