Violence by the defenders will be used by the putschists to justify overwhelming repression which they want to use anyhow. It will be used to CLAIM that the putschists are saving the country from terrorism or civil war, and are preserving “law and order”.

It could be that the US federal government is planning to smash Nevada rancher Bundy.
Fact: if Obama orders the assault, that will suggest that he has realized his agenda cannot be peacefully imposed in his final term.
An assault on the Bundy ranch would also indicate that The One believes he must crush all of his most intransigent enemies (the militias) before they capture the imagination of a large minority of the population. To put it plainly, attacking Bundy would probably be followed by raids in many other states. Federal forces could and just might kill a lot of people, and round up and imprison more. If it went that far, Obama would tell the US populace that the promised Utopia is being built on the corpses of racists and fascists who had to be disposed of to make the future safe for the New People’s Democratic Republic.
One can only hope that horrifying scenario is utter nonsense.
In this newsletter’s opinion, that is exactly what it is. If it is not, one can expect the federal government to target the militias across the nation. It would be foolish to do that without shutting down virtually all civilian means of communication, of course.
Will it go that far? In all probability, no. But Obama is scaring the daylights out of a significant number of people.
All that said, it is still possible — no, probably likely — that repressive measures will be taken against people who angrily oppose the current administration. Those malcontents will probably be called “dangerous”.
That would not be anything for a US president to be proud of. After all, proactive repression is stunningly stupid. If Obama is as smart and decent as he has pretended to be, he will recognize the situation for what it is. He will not be blinded by paranoid “progressive” hyperbole that claims “wingnuts” are terrorists.
Then, if he is big enough for his job, he will do two things: first, he will call Harry Reid and tell him to shut the hell up.
Second, he will take immediate steps to reassure the public. That means demonstrating that he is not a thug.
He will end the blundering of the Bureau of Land Management and tell the rest of the federal agencies to stand down.
Obama can settle the dispute with Bundy in a matter of minutes (as this newsletter has made clear). Look, in order to collect a bill, the BLM invaded Bundy’s ranch with a military force, dogs, tasers, and threats; while there, the BLM hooligans vandalized the property. Starting from those grim facts, discussions about Bundy’s bill should go quickly — because the government was wrong, wrong, wrong. It should handsomely indemnify Bundy.
Then there is no need to curtail anyone’s Liberty; the public is not at risk from the militias.
How The One conducts himself now will tell the USA and the world what values he places on life, on Liberty, and on decent governance.
The problem: this newsletter cannot be confident that he will do the right thing…after all, who knows how frightened he is?
